Premise of the Class: The Christian faith is not only about belief and practices, it is also about the kind of people that we become. Yet some of the biggest barriers to our transformation come from our toxic self-narratives. These narratives shape the way we see ourselves and the way we interact in the world. God designed us with a deep longing in our souls to be wanted, loved, alive, and connected to God. Healing our souls requires more than knowing what God thinks about us. Our healing comes not through reason alone, but through revelation.
Facilitated by Pastor Erik Vagen and Denise Worrell, this class will include discussion around James Bryan Smith's "Good and Beautiful You" book. Smith was an apprentice of Dallas Willard's who was charged to the deeper theological and philosophical Christian teachings that Willard taught and communicate them in an accessible curriculum for Jesus-followers of all types. Part of the class will include picking up your own copy of the book (see link below for one place to get it). A $10 registration cost will cover materials used throughout the weeks of class.
Class will include about an hour of interactive content followed by about 45 minutes of sharing and applying the truths in groups of 3 people. "Soul Training" practices will be encouraged in-between class times. As we pursue Jesus for life change we must utilize the true teaching, life application and locking arms with fellow travelers after the same goal.
